San Ramon police have arrested the father of an 8-year-old who brought a loaded 9mm handgun to his school, Twin Creeks Elementary School, and showed the weapon to other students Tuesday.
In the ensuing investigation, San Ramon Police Detectives obtained a search warrant for the student’s residence, as well as an arrest warrant for his father; after the firearm was recovered in the student’s backpack at their residence. No additional firearms were located during the service of the search warrant.
This morning, Thursday, San Ramon Police Detectives arrested the boy’s father, Anthony O’Donnell, 30, at his home in San Ramon. O’Donnell was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility pursuant to the arrest warrant, for the following charges:
- PC 496(a) – Possession of Stolen Property
- PC 25100(b) – Criminal Storage of a Firearm Accessible to Child
- PC 273A(a) – Child Endangerment
Bail is currently set at $140,000.00.
The San Ramon Police Department took the opportunity to remind citizens in general and parents in particular to speak with their children about firearms safety and reporting suspicious activities right away. Failing to properly store a firearm that is accessible to a child is a criminal offense.

We were holding our breath but thought this would happen. Terrible.
