Swalwell Suspends Gubernatorial Bid Amid Allegations Of Sexual Misconduct; Resigns Congressional Seat

Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA14) announced he was suspending his run for the California governor’s office Sunday after allegations of sexual and financial impropriety began to surface.

“To my family, staff, friends, and supporters, I am deeply sorry for mistakes in judgment I’ve made in my past.
I will fight the serious, false allegations that have been made — but that’s my fight, not a campaign’s,” Swalwell wrote in a post announcing suspension of his candidacy.

Swalwell’s decision further roiled the already turbulent waters of the campaign to lead the nation’s most populous state.

Swalwell’s announcement followed allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman twice, including when she worked for him, that were published Friday in the San Francisco Chronicle and later by CNN.

On Monday, Swalwell announced that he was resigning his Congressional seat. Interestingly, embattled Republican Congressman Tony Gonzales (R-TX23) – himself the focus of allegations of pressing female staffers for sex – also announced his intention to resign his seat.

Democrats drop out of their races after sexual abuse allegations, Republicans just add it to their resumes.

I always thought it was the other way around!
And you know this is the first round of the democrats cannibalizing each other before the gubernatorial election.

Politics aside, you can’t be accused of sexual assault and expect to get anywhere in life. I feel sorry for his victims, his wife and his kids.

      ??
It’s possible to be convicted of sexual assault and become potus.

Cory Mills (R-FL), Andy Ogles (R-TN), Tony Gonzales (R-TX) are all being investigated for sexual misconduct. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) was accused of interstate sex trafficking of minors and was nominated to the US Attorney General post, if you’ll recall. And, of course, there are our president and secretary of commerce partying with Epstein.

His name will still be on the ballot and he will still receive votes.

I’m sure Tony Gonzalez will be resigning any day now.

“I’m going to continue to fight these allegations” and “I’ve made mistakes in judgement and must take responsibility for them” sound like political weasel words from a guy with serious character and ethical problems.

What do you make of: “There is a season for everything and God has a plan for us all.”

      • Tamara on Apr 13, 2026 at 8:14 pm

I don’t know what Gods plan is or what his PR agency wrote for him. My guess is Swalwells plan is too lay low, then get ‘treatment” for alcohol, sex addiction, etc., after that write a tell book of redemption and finally get a show on MS Now, Podcast and run for Governor next cycle.

Actually “There is a season for everything and God has a plan for us all…” were Congressman Gonzales’ parting words after he announced his resignation today.

            “What about”

            -checkmate from News24/680

Anyway, Republicans are glad to have Tony Gonzalez gone. He was shameful, albeit not criminal. And before people try the moral high ground, never forget that a lot of politicians and reporters are now saying everyone they knew about Swalwell’s (and Ruben Gallegos’) conduct this whole time but couldn’t be bothered to mention.

Clearly a man of god and cliche.

Sounds like a good start – now do Boebert, Gosar, Luna, Donalds, Banks, Perry, Collins, Hageman.

I want my country back and sane people on the job. There are others too but this list will do for now. I have champagne for the day it happens.

Even with all those smiling family pictures and statements of “family values” on their campaign literature it seems like a lot of these politicians just aren’t very nice people.
