Moraga-Orinda Fire Restricts All Open Flame Burning For Remainder Of Fire Season

MOFD

Due to Red Flag Warnings and Extreme Fire Danger, ALL forms of open flames within the Fire District will be restricted for the remainder of fire season.

There is an increased threat of wildfire when open burning and recreational fires are allowed during times of high fire danger.  Improperly extinguished recreational fires and open burning have the potential to start uncontrolled fire and threaten nearby wildland and structures.  By banning open burning and recreational fires during high fire season, the threat of wildfire can be reduced.

Burn ban restrictions will remain in effect until the end of fire season.  For more information please visit https://www.mofd.org/our-district/fuels-mitigation-fire-prevention/burn-ban-in-effect

Dumb question probably but does this mean no grilling?

Janet, that’s actually a very good question, the wording “open burning and recreational fires” is very vague. Does that include gas outdoor heaters, gas fire pits, BBQ’s…

Agreed. Perfectly legitimate question and we hope MOFD will enlighten us all…

      Janet:
Perrin posted this to our Facebook after visiting the MOFD website –
      What is allowed?
UL or ASMI listed manufactured GAS (LPG or NG) outdoor flame devices and charcoal grills.

Why don’t they ban something that people actually use… barbeques, charcoal grills, etc. I’m not allowed to BBQ thanks to my HOA. Who has a campfire?

I would lime to ban all funding of MOFD pensions until the season where they have enough revenue to pay thier obligations.
