LETTER(S): Rough Exit At EBRPD; Mike And Sasha; Bannon’s Prediction

Editor;

Partly due to their name I thought the East Bay Regional Park District was a benign agency dedicated to running and caring for our local parks.

Recent developments have shown my long-held perception of the district may be off the mark as outgoing General Manager Sabrina Landreth threatens legal action against the district’s board, claiming she was “constructively terminated” and “could not perform (her) job under a Board of Directors which was not exercising appropriate governance and operates without adequate checks and balances.”

Wow. And I thought all they did was make sure the restrooms were clean and the walking trails were kept open.

Landreth also claimed that the board demanded she compromise her “integrity and values” and that she refused to do that, choosing to resign after the board, she says, forced her to take actions that would have violated open government and personnel laws.”

Details of those actions were not given but will most likely surface as the lawsuit she apparently intends to bring against the district and board plays out.

This was all kind of surprising for a long-time park user and fan. Hopefully this matter can be resolved without any lasting harm but I’ll confess I have a different impression of the EBRPD after learning of this matter.

Sincerely,

Lita Chandler-Fellows/Berkeley

Dear Editor;

I write to thank two people who recently came to the aid of my Aunt after she took a hard fall on the Lafayette-Moraga trail last week.

My aunt walks almost every day but rolled her ankle and took a hard spill in the Lafayette portion of the trail, cutting her hands and knees and braking (sic) her glasses in the process.

She was in pain and unable to call for help when two angels who identified themselves only as “Mike” and “Sasha” arrived to take her in hand, get her on her feet and give her a ride home, refusing to take anything in return.

It’s unlikely I will find these two people although I have tried so I wanted to thank them here. Our family is grateful for your kindness.

Sincerely,

Parry Molins/Walnut Creek

Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon has said he could face prison time if Republicans fail to win control of the House and Senate in next year’s midterm elections and lose the 2028 presidential race.

Bannon told an enthusiastic crowd gathered at the Conservative Partnership Institute “if we lose the midterms and we lose 2028, some in this room are going to prison — myself included. They’re not gonna stop. They are getting more and more and more radical. And we have to counter that. And what do we have to counter it with? We have to counter it with more action, more intense action, more urgency. We’re burning daylight.”

Disgusting John Wayne ripoff aside (why do all these guys talk like boys playing cowboy?) the felon jailed after pleading guilty to defrauding donors to his We Build the Wall scam added admitted in an interview with The Economist that there was a plan to keep Trump in the White House for a third term.

“The country needs him to be president of the United States,” Bannon said. “We have to finish what we started. We need him for at least one more term.”

My question to him would be: “Who exactly is ‘we?'” And as far as his prediction of jail for the fearless leader as well as himself after a democratic victory next year I can only say: “I hope you’re right.”

Regards,

Nicholas Dietrich/San Ramon

  1. I would not be too concerned with how a political figure speaks to a highly partisan group such as the Conservative Partner Institute. In political speak, this was red meat meant for their ears, not the general public. Not unlike a coach giving a halftime speech. Hyperbolic for sure, but that is politics.

    • “When someone shows you who they are, believe them…”
      The electorate ignores this to the detriment of our society.

  2. I for one would like to see Mister Bannons prediction fulfilled. I actually expected to see him and his cronies behind bars on January 7th but that’s how naive I am. This administration has shown the country for what it is.

  3. The lack of prosecutions for Epstein’s powerful “associates” throughout 5 administrations bears out how 2-tiered justice is in America. The DOJ under Garland failed to seriously pursue even the most black and white crimes by a former president because of his status above the law, above the rest of us. Pathetic.
