Gutter Ball – Walnut Creek Pinstripes Location Closes After Mere Months

Spanking new Pinstripes location closes in Walnut Creek.

Fans of the freshly opened Walnut Creek Pinstripes location at 1115 Broadway Plaza – and there appear to be more than a few – are digesting news that the spanking new bowling and “eater-tainment” venue has suddenly ceased operation, a lonely, hastily printed sign hung on its front doors.

Majority owner Oaktree Capital Management cited financial difficulties and imminent preparation for bankruptcy proceedings as reason for the closure, which took employees and customers alike by surprise.

The Walnut Creek location, closed along with another venue in Overland Park, Kansas, opened to generally favorable reviews in late 2024 and was known for its family-friendly atmosphere.

Founder Dale Schwartz founded Pinstripes in 2006 and remains the CEO and Chairperson of the board.

The company, facing declining sales and increasing debt, is seeking court approval for a marketing and sale process to sell its continuing locations while facing potential closure of its remaining venues. Pinstripes reported significant financial losses and saw a decline in sales in the first half of 2025, leading to its delisting from the New York Stock Exchange.

The company went through a financial restructuring in March 2025.

  1. I couldn’t tell if they were a bowling alley, a place for baseball memorabilia or a restaurant. Seems like management couldn’t either.

  2. How many people worked there? Seems like the company may have wanted to do some market research before spending all that money. That’s a big expenditure for no return?

  3. Not surprised at all. I’ve walked through on several Saturday evenings which should be their busiest and the place was almost empty. Why did they think 3/4 length bowling lanes would attract anyone? Not sure about the food and of course the service was good, two workers for every customer was my observation.

  4. Frankly, from the opening. I thought a bowling alley /entertainment center was totally out of place at Broadway Plaza. Sorry to say, but Bowlers are hardly ever upscale shoppers.
