“Flash Photo” From Lafayette Subscriber Monday

"Flash Photo"

Scene captured outside our Lafayette Safeway store tonight as local coppers detained at least one person suspected of shoplifting from the store. And, yes, that is still going on despite recent changes to the law.

We call this a “Flash Photo” because Paul very kindly sent it in via our Flash Alert system, which thousands of you now use. This has proven to be a fast and efficient method of documenting local incidents so… thanks, Flashers!

Whoa! Wait just a second! Are you suggesting that people shoplifted prior to Prop 47? Why am I just learning about this?!?!? I was under the impression that all property crime only happened after we stopped imprisoning people for life after that third strike for stealing a slice of pizza.

People always shoplifted, ..small & secretively. but when the law changed. it multiplied a hundred times and became blatant, as there were no longer consequences.
