UPDATE: The woman killed in this crash was identified Friday as Saniya Banga, 18, of Pittsburg.

An 18-year-old girl was killed and her male companion seriously injured in a rollover crash on Ygnacio Valley Road early Thursday morning.

The deceased remained covered at the crash scene while the unidentified male victim was transported to John Muir Hospital with unspecified, non-life-threatening injuries. The crash, reported just after 1 a.m. at Ygnacio and N. Civic, closed the roadway and knocked out power for 3,200 in the area before power was restored later in the morning.

That stretch of road is expected to remain closed for investigation for much of the day.

A reader reported hearing the sound of a car traveling at high speed and then crashing in front of the Andoil gas station at 605 Ygnacio Valley shortly before the power went out to his residence Thursday morning.

Police were reportedly looking into whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.

Another single vehicle MVA with tragic results. Late hours, excessive speed, youthful exuberance, and allegedly being under the influence (reported by other outlets) is not a worthy combination. Everyone stay safe and vigilant.
