Two people are dead and several others injured after a crash was reported on southbound I680 at the Sunol Boulevard offramp Monday.
The crash, involving at least one car with two women aboard, was reported off the road at 2:35 p.m. A coroner’s response has been requested.
There were eight people in the car at the time, including two children, according to the California Highway Patrol. Two adults died at the scene with two other adults transported to the hospital with major injuries. The two other adults and two children suffered minor injuries. The children were transported to Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland, according to the CHP.
A SigAlert for all lanes was requested at 3:02 p.m. with a 30 minute estimated time for reopening.
Motorists are reporting a significant backup in the area.
No immediate word was given as to what caused the crash.
