The death of a 67-year-old man found deceased in his home on Camino Verde Circle in Walnut Creek Nov. 27 is being investigated as a homicide, a department release confirmed Friday.

Firefighters called to a residence in the 1900 block of the street found the man’s body inside, determined that his passing appeared suspicious and contacted police for a follow up investigation.

This site issued a news alert of the discovery that night.

It’s not known what prompted detectives to classify the case as a homicide but toxicological and other testing is usually undertaken after such discoveries.

Police said they are not revealing the identity of the victim though his next of kin have been notified.

“WCPD Detectives are following up on all leads at this time,” the release stated.

Is it normal for there to have so much time elapse between discovery and determination?

It happens. There are some medical conditions that can make it look as if the deceased has been the victim of foul play. This is probably what gave first responders pause. Then pathology and toxicologic testing is done to narrow down the manner of death, time, etc. And those tests do take time.
