“When The (Drift) Smoke Gets In Your Eyes…”

Notice of a controlled/proscribed burn at Painted Rock in Moraga was fairly broadly disseminated prior to the action but it appears quite a number of locals and neighbors to our east where caught completely unaware Friday.

Phone calls and emails flooded this site’s contact apparatus after Moraga-Orinda Fire Protection District personnel touched off the grassy area near the fabled local landmark (high school kids trek up to the rock to paint it in school colors, proclaim their love, etc.) Friday afternoon.

Worried calls from folks in Lafayette, Walnut Creek, Concord and Martinez quickly overwhelmed our lines so we’ve been sharing what we know of the operation and reinforcing the fact that nothing is burning that shouldn’t be.

Of course, that could change at any moment but at (2:25 pm) all was right in the 24/680.

  1. Alternate song title for headline-“Smoke from a Distant Fire” Sanford Townsend Band 1977. A good tune to this day.
And yes, yours truly did receive advance notice of the controlled burn situation.
