A fiery crash in the 400 block of Appian Way in El Sobrante claimed one life early Thursday morning.
Calls of a crash and car on fire at 420 Appian brought multiple emergency services to the area, crews quickly locating the burning car and the body of a person with major injuries a short distance away.
A man believed to have been the car’s occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Subsequent investigation determined that San Pablo police had initiated a pursuit with a green 1997 Nissan Altima east on San Pablo Dam at 12:22 a.m., police terminating the pursuit when the car sped off at speeds topping 90mph.
At 12:33 a.m., SPPD officers were notified that the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office had responded to reports of a rollover crash involving a Nissan on Appian Way. The unidentified decedent was confirmed to have multiple outstanding warrants for domestic violence and weapons violations, according to police.
Per Contra Costa County protocol, San Pablo Police Department is jointly investigating this incident with the District Attorney’s Office and the assistance of the California Highway Patrol and Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office.
at this rate it will be news if we get through a night WITHOUT a car exploding and someone being killed. Insane.
