A suspect in a series of devastating roadside attacks on motorists traveling Highway 242 last year is in custody and facing multiple charges in connection with the assaults.
Investigators say Mark Navone, 46, who authorities said has been residing in Concord, is the man who hurled bricks and concrete at cars at passing autos – killing one woman and maiming another as the debris plunged through windshields and car windows.
The 2020 attacks spawned widespread regional attention and an extensive investigation. It was not immediately known what brought Navone to the attention of authorities, though several agencies reported involvement in his apprehension.
He is being held without bail for the April 10 death of Margarita Ruiz, killed by a brick that hurtled into her car, another assault in October and still another on Dec. 23 – which disfigured a nurse on her way to work in Concord when her car was struck by a rock.
Navone faces charges including murder, mayhem and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the attacks.
Hope he rots in hell (if guilty)
Hang him high.
Senseless. Callous and lost.
If found mentally competent….mens rea defined.
Nice work by CHP and CPD. 108RS
Mark has some explaining to do.
Sonora had a rock or brick case also. Wonder if related.
Could someone tell me please what on Gods green earth would compel someone to go to a freeway and throw deadly missiles at passing cars?
Not the same guy. Age is off by about 10 years
Unbelievable
