Attorney Promises Civil Rights Lawsuit, New Video Of Danville Police Shooting

An attorney representing the family of a man shot and killed by a Danville police officer on March 11 promised a federal civil rights lawsuit would be filed today and new video of the shooting would be released.

A video pre-released to the San Francisco Chronicle shows Deputy Andrew Hall firing once at Tyrell Wilson – the round reportedly striking Wilson in the face. Wilson drops a bag he was carrying in his left hand and folds to the ground.

He died later at an area hospital.

The Oakland office of attorney John Burris said the lawyer would release additional details of the shooting from the Park and Ride at Sycamore Valley Road and Camino Ramon where Tyrell Wilson was believed to have lived and was eventually shot.

Although the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office – the law enforcement body providing police coverage for Danville – has offered still images of apparent body cam video taken during the shooting showing Wilson with an open clasp knife in his hand, Wilson’s lawyer and family contend witness descriptions of the incident contradict police accounts.

The suit, which seeks unspecified damages from the Town of Danville, would be fully outlined during today’s announcement, Burris’ staff said.

Hall responded to the area that day to locate a man reportedly throwing rocks onto the I680 freeway – the two eventually coming into contact and Hall firing after he said Wilson advanced on him with the knife and failed to drop it despite commands to do so.

Hall was also involved in the 2018 shooting of another man, Laudemar Arboleda, who also died of gunfire delivered by the officer while attempting to get past a police roadblock with his car.

  1. A lot of people saw this — there was a lot of traffic in the area at the time. I would imagine a lot of people wish they could unsee it.
