Police in Orinda are investigating an attempted carjacking reported in their city at about 7:51 p.m. Monday.
Officers responded to the first block of Moraga Way in Orinda, the Theater Square area, and spoke with a woman who said she was approached by three suspects as she entered her Mazda 3. One suspect took her phone and keys and forced her out of the car, police said.
The three suspects entered the vehicle and only drove a short distance because they were not able to release the parking brake. The suspects then fled on foot, according to police.
Orinda police, assisted by officers from Moraga, Lafayette and Danville, searched for the suspects but were unable to locate the suspects and they remain at large.
There was no word on if this latest case was in any way related to a series of carjackings taking place in the county in recent days. Description of a lone carjacker, who has reportedly been armed during at least one instance, does not match those given after the incident in Orinda.
Anyone with any information on this incident is asked to contact Sergeant S. Valkanoff of the Orinda Police Department at (925) 253-4217. For any tips, email: Orindatip@cityoforinda.org<mailto:Orindatip@cityoforinda.org> or call 866-846-3592 to leave an anonymous voice message.
Orinda has really gone downhill since we moved out of there!
And we’re placing the blame for its downfall squarely on you! Come back!

All about the freeway access
Good job. Too bad he didn’t follow them, if safe, and get a description of the car and / or maybe plates.
There is the freeway onramp there, almost hidden. Has Orinda installed a camera like Lafayette has, when you exit town?
Not sure what good that would do. They obviously didn’t have a car (thus the carjacking attempt). Besides, how do you know the suspects aren’t Orinda residents?
They often travel in groups, same thing when stealing bikes. See a car you like, jump out and try your luck. The City rarely catches & punishes car theft.
Not likely that a CEO or business professional is heisting cars on the side. But I do recommend the movie Drive.

Ooh… Cop Talk!
I would imagine they ran straight back to the BART station?
We’re betting on secondary car with waiting driver pointed at the freeway entrance there…
Or they are Orinda residents. Let’s not assume that all our neighbors are angelic!
Or it’s you. If you can make assumptions, so can I.
If she didn’t have a Mazda 3 they would have been out of there!
A bullet in the head of the perp might prevent future incidents. Guns save lives.
Peaceful and tranquil Lamorinda….no longer….car jackings and coyotes!
