LETTERS: Time To Move Forward – Together

Editor:

The last few years have shown American democracy to be much more fragile than many could have imagined, with public trust in institutions and our fellow citizens tested and – in some cases – waning.

Many have suggested the country is beyond hope, with legislative bodies locked in stalemate and some sworn to tearing down anything suggested or built by colleagues across the aisle. I believe, however, that rather than finding ourselves on the verge of what many have predicted would be a civil war we are actually in the process of finding ourselves again, of establishing our goals for what we envision America to be, and that many among us are working to get us all there.

With all the welcome celebration and sense of newfound direction this weekend I have felt a joyous return to what we value as citizens. I do not attribute this to any particular candidate or party, but to our desires and wishes as Americans as our joy over the rejection of a would-be tyrant is in fact on display. Americans are saying loud and clear what’s important to them, that they reject the manipulations of entities attempting to hijack their country and their desire to participate in a global effort to make things better for all.

Not only are we looking to reestablish the practice of democracy we are looking for a better democracy – and we’re willing to work to get it.

We’ve got to listen to fellow citizens differently – finding ways to respect and argue better in hope of finding common ground and strengthening our binding democracy. I’m hoping we can find a way to explore new ideas and methods – from a year of national service, investing in our infrastructure, taking better care of our oceans and threatened national parks, addressing issues pertaining to health care, education and human rights.

These are not just talking points for political candidates. They are essential issues critical to our continuation as a species, as a country, and as a democracy.

The U.S. presidential race is over. But the debate over our collective future is just beginning. It needs to be creative and constructive. And it needs to happen soon.

Respectfully,

William B. Trask/ Walnut Creek

  1. We’ll see. There appears to be massive fraud on many fronts.

Michigan AG trying to shut down a free press.

Gateway Pundit: “The #DetroitLeaks reporting shows Detroit poll workers who were trained in how to lie, trained on how to handle ballot challenges from Trump supporters, told to call 911 on any challengers and to use COVID as an excuse to deny poll challengers access to view the ballots as they were being counted and tabulated…”

    Even challenged ballots were counted.

    • We’re in a place where the truth and facts do not seem to matter to Trump and his disciples. It’s the true indicator of a cult following.

    • “Attorney General William Barr said Tuesday the Justice Department has not uncovered evidence of widespread voter fraud that would change the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.

His comments come despite President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that the election was stolen, and his refusal to concede his loss to President-Elect Joe Biden.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Barr said U.S. attorneys and FBI agents have been working to follow up specific complaints and information they’ve received, but they’ve uncovered no evidence that would change the outcome of the election.”

      Game. Set. Match.

At some point even the most dedicated MAGAT has to admit they’ve been duped and lied to.

  2. Mr. Trask:

I am reminded of one of my daughter’s soccer matches where a team from the Central Valley, (Stockton I believe) came to play on the Orinda fields, during which the Stockton players were openly violent, hitting, shoving, stepping on feet, kicking the goalie long after she caught the ball, and with two of our team (one my daughter) leaving for clinics and others sidelined. And at the end, the Stockton players who won lined up for congratulations. Well, there is your letter to the editor.

The Trump administration and the country was subjected to the “resist” movement, cancel culture, amazing hate and censorship in the leftist media, a constant parade of accusations, attempted impeachment from day one, months of violence in cities with the BLM movement, arson, looting, and vandalism. And the left won.

Your letter is just as disingenuous as the winning Stockton players were in lining up for the “good game” comments at the end. You speak of “respect” and “finding common ground” even while condemning the choice of 70 million voters as supporting a “would-be-tyrant.” The lesson for the Stockton soccer players and the Democrats in this election is that viciousness in the correct proportions wins.

    • So Trump and the Republicans who supported him are like the Orinda girls soccer team? And the disabled people, women, government employees, fractured families and war dead losers he ridiculed are the big bad soccer players from Stockton? Do I have that right? And remember — there is film of your president doing and saying all of that. Just want to make sure this is in line with your vision for the way things played out because if so, I’d say someone drank the Kool Aid in a big way.

  3. So much for this working together thing. If people would rather spend their time regurgitating conspiracy theories instead of coming up with solutions to the problems ahead so be it. It may be time to cut them loose.

    • It appears to be widespread fraud never seen before.

      – dead people voting, thousands
      – deceased spouses voting
      – votes being flipped in the thousands
      – Dead Republican Joe Frazier voted for Biden!?

      • First, 3 of your 4 bullet points are dead people voting. The 3 categories of dead are not additive. Dead Joe Frazier or dead spouse voting is subsumed by the primary category: “dead people voting, thousands”. Second, Joe Biden wins the voting by 4 to 5 million votes. These voting dead people are more likely than not voting for the winner, not the loser. That’s not fraud. That’s normalized dead voting behavior. Why should it differ from living voting behavior? The majority of votes are cast for the winner, yes? Finally, vote flipping is not a real thing. We vote. If it is different from our last vote, that is evidence of change, not fraud. And, finally, finally, just how do thousands of voting dead people change the outcome when 150,000,000 votes are tallied and the winner wins by 5,000,000????

        • So much happening … now the Federal government is pressuring a USPS employee who has become a Whistleblower. He has sworn that USPS supervisors instructed employees to back date late arriving ballots.

“Media: There’s no evidence of voter fraud!

*is given proof of 10,000+ dead people voting for Biden in Michigan*

“Media: There’s no evidence of voter fraud!”

  4. A nice hopeful letter. Unfortunately, you can’t save a fool from himself. Looking forward to the next administration presser in the landscape company parking lot. “If you’ve seen any fraud, tell me… please tell me.” Pitiful if it wasn’t so frightening – these people have a death grip on the reins of power.

  5. While America burns, Trump fiddles…or golfs.
Your wishful optimism is nice, but we are in a battle against American fascism, and it is not being seriously opposed at this point. Democrats are still playing by the old rules while an armed group of angry white men (not a militia) storm the capitol in Michigan, and the national response is “meh, no one got hurt. Just boys with toys”.

This will not end in a decade. This anti-pluralism, xenophobic white nationalism has been nurtured, succored by the Republican party, and the beneficiaries of this hateful worldview will not go quietly.
    Pick a side.

  6. It’s not worth arguing with them. They’ve adopted the tactics and principles of their leader – and even when they lose in their mind they win. The people have had their say and history will write around this period of shame.

  7. Incredible scenario with a man of questionable ethics and mental capacity still holding office and hinting he’ll stay in power while a cabal of enablers and evangelical loyalists lie and cheat to keep him there.

    • Diminished mental capacity? Basement Biden or China Joe?

Ethics? You’re kidding me, right? The Biden Crime Family giving the Clintons a run for their money. Joe’s brother snags a $1._ B housing development in the Middle East, crackhead Hunter tales $1./ Billion from Communist China and than takes over $3M from a Russian
      … it never ends.

        • And you watch Don Lemon & Anderson Cooper? Ha!

BTW, Kamala Harris got her start in Willie Brown’s office.

          • There it is. The typical MAGA response. So predictable. For the record and sake of discussion, I’ve never seen an episode hosted by either of those gentlemen. A raising the whiff of the vice-president elect’s beginnings (which I’m aware of) are as relevant here as Melania’s pornog… “modeling” pictures.

  8. Hypocrites and liars. And people follow them. It’s unbelievable but true. Says something about the country I’m afraid. Back to Four Seasons Lawns & Landscape for the latest on voter fraud — that never happened. Pitiful.

  9. If they need volunteers for the extraction team to pull Orange Boy out of the Oval I’m down. And I have several friends who would like to help out if they need them.

    • Extraction team. I like that. I had my wisdom teeth extracted, and you know what, I don’t miss them. I have a picture in my mind from the movie Fargo of how it will go down…whining, crying. If there is secret service video one day, we should be able to FOIA that. I look forward to that day.

  10. A lot of it has to do with so called value voters putting aside those values in favor of a heretic who promises to give them what they want. Extremely dangerous situation I hope people recognize. A friend calls them the American Taliban.

  11. Very sad parade of silly and gullible people who will probably go to their graves believing they were right.

  12. I hear there is a popular meme for FDT going around.
It’s been a very 2020 kind of year. Got covid. Got fired. Soon to be evicted.
I like it. There is a god.

  13. To every thing there is a season. Frivolous election lawsuits laughed out of court. (Oops! I meant to bring some evidence, your honor). Republicans hate frivolous law suits except when they bring them. Deficits are baaaad! when you have a Democrat President. (Oops! Bush Iraq war spending with tax cut. Oops! McConnell tax cut for billionaires and corporations while still spending on those wars). Go ahead. Leave a pile of crap on the welcome mat. We are used to it. We’ll clean it up for you all over again. And, as short memories prevail, we will repeat this in 10 years or so. Still, somebody has to be the adult.
