Moraga police announced the closure of popular Commons Park at dusk Friday, citing the hour as the time coyotes are more apt to roam and making the move after a child was reportedly bitten by a coyote in the park parking lot.

Police made the decision after consulting with wildlife officials. The park will reopen at its usual hour on Saturday and, so far, no announcement has been made relative to another early closure.

A 2-year-old boy suffered a bite wound reportedly inflicted by a coyote on Thursday. The time of the alleged attack was not provided.

  1. I have seen two in the last couple of weeks in Moraga. Usually they are heard but not seen. One was pristine like a WWF picture and the other mottled with mud or yuck. When you are talking coyotes, it’s unclear which was the more representative specimen. Hope the kid will be OK. That must have been scary!

  2. The way we see it they were here ahead of us and we paved over their houses with ours. Hope the baby is healing.
