The Faces Behind That 24/680 “Mystery Accident”

Veteran readers know we covered – and were concerned about – Saturday’s crash on our namesake 24/680 in which three men attempting to repair a flat tire on a truck on the side of the freeway were hit and seriously injured.

Initially stymied in our effort to gather additional details, we find that a Go Fund Me account has been started for the trio, identified as: Agustin Mejia, Gerardo Marquez, and Gustavo Yáñez.

Friends and supporters of Agustin Mejia said he suffered two lacerations, one on his cheek, and the other on his chest – he has a broken femur, a broken collar bone, cheek bone, and a dislocated leg. Friends said he should be out of the hospital this week.

Marquez is “bruised pretty badly around his body, and requires some stitches on his leg. He also has a broken vertebrae in his spine, which will require no surgery, just a brace that he will need to wear. He is also expected to be out of the hospital very soon.”

Yáñez suffered multiple fractures to his leg, as well as his elbow. He has also gone through surgery to repair damage to his intestine and spleen. Friends said additional surgeries are required.

  1. How sad that they were hurt just trying to change a flat tire. I wish these gentlemen speedy recoveries. Prayers…

    • So, you think this is sad. You think this was an accident…because it was a disabled vehicle that was the road hazard…as opposed to a fully functional bicycle, legally winding its way up a country road. You think the latter was just being reckless because there are cars on the road, and cars own the road. It seems pretty simple. Pretty clear. Reckless driving was not the cause of the death of the bicyclist. It was the stupidity or recklessness by the guy on the bike to simply be on the road. Similarly, reckless driving was not the cause of the injuries described above. Sh*t just happens. As the ambassador said, “Klingon justice is a unique point of view”.

    • From the recording it sounds like a car or truck hit a trailier or something nearby and pushed it into them.
