One man was shot and another grazed by a bullet during what California Highway Patrol investigators said was a “targeted” shooting of the occupants of one car by the occupants of another at about 7:50 p.m. that evening.

The unidentified male driver of the targeted vehicle was hit in the head but is expected to survive, according to the CHP.

Word of the incident was Flashed to NEWS24/680 subscribers as CHP officers responded to the tunnel along with other police agencies and firefighters.

The incident led to closure of the bore as investigators looked for evidence. It was reopened at about 10:30 p.m.

  1. Got stuck in this.. I’m sick of this ghetto crap on our freeways caused by a few individuals resulting in massive traffic headaches for the rest of us. How many times in the past year have 24 and 680 been shut down for stuff like this (shootings, chases, etc)?

    • We get you, RIF, and if that question was in search of an answer we could only say it seems like countless times. At least two cases further south along the I680 in recent days. And we’ll agree that the notion of our fellow motorists being armed makes us very cautious drivers indeed these days.

  2. Targeted shooting on Father’s Day? Wow. Anyone who has ever watched the news knows that Mother’s Day shootings happen in the inner city. A rather hurtful way (and day) to retaliate. What a pathetic way to live. We’re all sick of it.

    • Any day, yes, but particularly so on those days. We would imagine there is some jockeying for position/turf among Bay Area crime gangs going on at the moment…
