A sizable fire response is on scene or on the way to Postino restaurant on Mt. Diablo Boulevard in Lafayette this evening after a kitchen fire grew beyond staff’s ability to handle it and crept into the restaurant’s ceiling.

Mt. Diablo Boulevard has been closed in both directions outside the restaurant to facilitate the firefighting effort. Patrons were all safely evacuated shortly after the incident was reported at around 7 p.m.

The fire was declared out at approximately 7:35 p.m. with firefighters venting the steep slate roof and dormers of the popular local landmark to allow built up smoke to escape. No preliminary damage estimate was given.

Even looks a little like Notre Dame in the photo — so glad we didn’t have the same outcome.

Seemed a lot worse that it was I guess. There was an awful lot of smoke coming out of that building.
