Police shut down Moraga Road at Ascot Drive Thursday morning after a rollover crash damaged a pole, knocked out power to the area briefly and left the driver with moderate injuries.
Tom Grayson, in the area at the time, said the driver of a Honda Accord lost control of the car and sped up a guide wire and into a power pole, seriously damaging the pole, before falling back to the ground.
First responders arriving on scene rushed to assist the driver, who may have suffered some sort of medical event prior to the crash, Grayson said.
“It happened very fast. I wasn’t sure I was seeing what I was seeing.”
Moraga PD have shut down Moraga Road, apparently in both directions, as they wait for PG&E crews to assess damage to the power pole.
The crash was reported at approximately 8:30 a.m. and is unfolding as this is written.
Ouch! Driver ok???
Off to John Muir with moderate injuries, Daniel.
Thanks for the flash. Managed to get around this entirely before they shut it down. Hope the driver is ok.
Glad it came in handy, Michael. (They tend to!)
Still resetting all my electronics. He must have really smacked that pole.
He sure did, Robert.
The car went up the wire, flipped at top of the pole and fell to ground. Unreal, like a movie scene.
One of the all-time classic cliches of news coverage, Jenn (like a movie scene), but we get you! Others saying the same… were you driving at the time or on steady ground?
I hope the driver makes a full recovery. That is one strong guide wire!
Agreed, though we can kind of visualize that happening… not a good start to the day!
