ED: First, a big doff of the Fedora to our digital colleagues in arms at EastCountyToday for giving us the heads up on this story. Second, what’s with all the doggies jumping into police cars lately?

Here we go:

Antioch Police announced on Facebook Saturday that Officer Amiri was performing a routine traffic stop around 1:00 am when a French Bulldog jumped into his patrol vehicle.

After taking the dog to Animal Services, it was discovered the dog had a microchip and the owner was informed their dog was safe and would be returned.

The dog, out of Orinda, had been missing since November 9 of 2015.

Why did the police take the dog though? Was the driver arrested? Why didn’t they just write a ticket and give the dog back?
Great that they didn’t but there’s more to the story.

Of course there’s more to the story, but as long as they got their dog back. The police don’t owe the general public any explanation. They’re not in the “full disclosure” business. They keep things close to their vest.
