All lanes of northbound Interstate Highway 680 north of Olympic Boulevard in Walnut Creek have been reopened after a fatal accident early forced a temporary closure of the freeway early Sunday morning.
Investigators said a 22-year-old Concord man was killed when his Volkswagen GTI left the highway and crashed at around 4 a.m., ejecting him.
A SigAlert, which closed all lanes of the northbound freeway, was declared but was canceled around 6 a.m.
