Reported by Flash and through our Facebook page as it happened this morning, with this update furnished by the CHP:
Today at about 10:09am, Contra Costa CHP was advised of a solo vehicle traffic collision in Walnut Creek on the North Main Street on-ramp to northbound I-680. Upon CHP and emergency personnel arrival, it was determined that a grey Toyota sedan veered off the roadway and collided with the on-ramp guardrail. The male driver (29yr old from Winnetka, CA) of the sedan was pronounced deceased at the scene. His male passenger (male from Pittsburg, CA) was transported to John Muir hospital for his injuries.
In the initial investigation, it appears that the male driver of the Toyota sedan was traveling on the North Main Street on-ramp to northbound I-680 and for unknown reasons, the driver veered to the right and collided with the metal guard rail bordering the freeway. No other vehicles were involved in the collision. The male driver was pronounced deceased at the scene and his passenger was extricated and transported to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek for major injuries. Traffic on I-680 was initially effected and had a SigAlert issued but has since been lifted. But this investigation is still ongoing at the scene and the North Main Street on-ramp is still closed at this time.
It is unknown if alcohol or drugs are a factor in this collision. This collision is still under investigation and if anyone witnessed it or the events leading up to it, please contact Contra Costa CHP in Martinez, and contact Officer Taylor. (925) 646-4980. Thank you.
Yeh it wasn’t pretty. Condolences.
