A motorcyclist was killed in a grinding crash on northbound I680 at Olympic Boulevard Monday – prompting closure of the freeway while the crash was investigation and triggering a sizable traffic jam.

Motorists reported the crash at approximately 9:49 p.m. and first responders encountered debris in the northbound lanes upon arrival minutes later. The motorcyclist, later identified as 24-year-old Richard Manuli III of Martinez was found, unresponsive, in the fast lane of the freeway.

A CHP release stated:

The rider, a 24yr old male from Martinez, was declared deceased at the scene. Our initial report indicates that the motorcyclist was traveling on the SR-24 eastbound connector ramp to northbound 680. For unknowns reasons, the rider veered his 2015 Honda motorcycle to the right off the roadway portion and collided with the right concrete wall of the connector, subsequently ejecting himself off the over-crossing and onto the lower northbound lanes of 680. Northbound 680 at Ygnacio Valley Road was effected approximately 1 & 1/2 hrs for the investigation.

This is an ongoing investigation and if anyone saw this incident or has any information regarding it, please contact Contra Costa CHP Officer Fulgencio in Martinez at 925-646-4980. Thank you.
