Just before 4 p.m. Monday, San Ramon police officers responded to a report of a single vehicle collision with the car striking a tree on Windemere Parkway, near Longleaf Circle.
Witnesses reported seeing a male running from the area of the collision immediately after the crash, the driver leaving a male passenger inside the vehicle with significant injuries.
San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District personnel arrived, requested an air ambulance, and ultimately extricated the passenger, a 16-year-old male from San Ramon, from the car. The unidentified teen was transported by medical helicopter to the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek and is currently listed in critical condition.
While the initial collision investigation was being conducted, a subject drove back to the accident scene and admitted to being the driver of the involved vehicle. He also reportedly admitted to consuming alcohol prior to the collision. Witnesses of the collision were transported to the location of the driver and positively identified him as the driver and the individual they saw running from the location. The driver, a 16-year-old male from San Ramon, began to complain of pain as a result of the collision and was transported by ambulance to the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.
Detectives from the San Ramon Police Department authored a search warrant to obtain a sample of the driver’s blood, which was drawn was drawn for evidentiary purposes. The suspect was placed under arrest for a felony violation of Penal Code 23153(a), driving under the influence resulting in great bodily injury.
Members of the San Ramon Police Department Traffic Division and Central County Regional Traffic Team are at the location conducting a comprehensive collision investigation.
