DANVILLE, CA — In solemn remembrance of the men and women who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces, the historic Beacon on Mount Diablo will be lit at sunset on Monday, May 26, 2025, in observance of Memorial Day. (Press Release & Proclamation attached PDF).
Members of the public are invited to join local veterans and Mayor Renee Morgan of Danville at 8:00 PM at the flagpole in front of the Veterans Memorial Building in Danville for a brief community ceremony. At sunset (8:21 PM), participants will press the ceremonial button to light the Beacon atop Mount Diablo—an enduring symbol of remembrance, resilience, and gratitude.
The event will include a performance of The Star-Spangled Banner by Karley Conde, remarks from Mayor Renee Morgan and Vietnam War Veteran Pat Leary, and a moving rendition of Taps by Joe McHale. The Veterans Memorial Building will be open to the public from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
This annual tribute is held in accordance with a Historic Proclamation, signed on February 25, 2022, at the Veterans Memorial Building, which designates that the Mount Diablo Beacon be illuminated only on Pearl Harbor Day, Memorial Day, and Veterans Day in honor of America’s Veterans.
