A 47-year-old Concord man was arrested following a lengthy Memorial Day standoff with police in the 3600 block of Rosebrook Court Monday evening.

Concord police, supported by officers from neighboring agencies, responded to the area at approximately 6 pm after a man later identified as Christian Stuart allegedly confronted neighbors before returning to his home and firing at least three shots – apparently into the walls.

A neighbor reported that Stuart had forced his way into her Rosebrook Court home while armed with a pistol, allegedly aiming the weapon at the woman and one of her three children. Police said the neighbor was able to distract Stuart, giving her time to escape outside with her children.

Officers arriving at the scene surrounded the residence, deployed a drone and while doing so heard several gunshots coming from inside the home.

At approximately 8:22 p.m., Stuart exited the residence holding the firearm and was taken into custody. (See our video). Police found bullet impacts inside the residence as well as evidence of a small fire. Stuart told officers he entered the victim’s home because he was being followed by several armed subjects. A thorough investigation was conducted and no evidence was located to support Stuart’s statement.

Stuart was arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Arson, Negligent Discharge of a Firearm, Carrying a Loaded and Unregistered Firearm, and Cruelty to Child.

He is currently in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility. Preliminary bond was set at $150,000.

  1. A bit surprised by this… It has always been such a nice, quiet neighborhood. I guess people are angry everywhere these days.

    • You weren’t the only one surprised, Neighbor (Did we just sound like John Wayne there?)… several folks expressed the same level of surprise. Hope it was an aberration. All best…

  2. I’m sure they’ve let him out of jail already but I sure hope they’ve kept his gun. One never knows the way out system is being nowadays.
