Letters: Daddy’s Hot Diggity Davos!

SHARE

Editor;

Watching the Bloviator In Chief waddle around Davos confusing the names of countries he wants to invade while insulting our allies and conducting the Kremlin’s business was exhausting. I need a rest. I would say the whole charade was eye opening if I hadn’t known this has been the Great Grifter’s MO since about 2015.

Back at home, I watched Rumpledshirtskin and the rest of the Republican Clown Car try to dismantle Jack Smith in a display of hypocrisy so brazen capitol policeman Michael Fanone began to cough/curse a la Animal House – throwing in the single digit salute for good measure.

Understandable? Sure. Uncomfortable? Yes. A measure of how far we’ve fallen? Certainly. America dug a big hole for itself and it’s going to take more than a weekend for us to find a way out. I’m ready for whats to come but after watching the level of corruption, dishonor and disrespect recently exhibited by our – chosen – leaders I’m sure it’s going to hurt.

Sincerely,

Miranda Walsh/San Ramon

  1. Dear News24-680,
I love the news and service you provide for us locally. Howevet. I dislike whenever you let an editorial letter of national politics lead your day of news. I might add, that these were always from the Trump-Republicsn hater side of things. ( and boy they’ve become unhinged lately) ( I think Trump is just playing them now to get a rise out of them!)
If you, News24-680, had balanced journalism you would have an alternate view also published. Not just these spectaular, flaming liberal-left ones.
Well, maybe I could serve as one by saying that everything Miranda stated is exactly how alot of us felt, but only with the names and administration switched to the ones that ruled
(misruled) during the proceeding 4 years.

    • Write one…

Make sure your name, address, phone number is on it. We publish vetted letters from the readership. The only “letters” we’re getting from the party you mention are menacing and anonymous.

    • The irony of you insisting upon a misconstrued version of the Fairness Doctrine from a self described conservative viewpoint is… palpable.

  2. In all fairness, everyone is writing in anonymously. Unless your CDL has been scanned, there is no guarantee your name and city are real. Online you are who you say you are. I remember hearing Geraldo say that to a criminal defense attorney. I think they were talking about child molesters, but I get his point. People who comment under their real first and last name think they’re more credible, but there are too many people using fictitious names, so we’re all the same. Just my 2 cents!

    • Just for some perspective on what Geraldo says: “On April 21st, 1986, “The Mystery of Al Capone’s Vaults”, hosted by Geraldo Rivera was broadcast live on syndicated tv. For two hours approx 30 million people watched as the vaults were opened and contained… nothing. A true ratings triumph. Do you remember this show and di you watch?”

I did watch. I mean, how could you build that expectation so high and produce empty rooms, LIVE?
I give you Geraldo, a media survivor, with sub-zero credibility for 40 years.

As for me? Old people. F*ck ’em’. But they do possess long memory and context you don’t, at your peril.

      • For the record we didn’t bite on the Capone’s Vault thing but he really lost us when he scribbled the 101 Airborne’s operational orders in the sand on live tv in Iraq back in 2003.

      • I do remember this show, but I missed the opening of the vault! If I had to do it all over again, I would’ve watched with 30 million others. Maybe I was doing something constructive.

I agree that Geraldo isn’t high on the credibility list, but I find him entertaining, and I’ve always liked him. He’s very passionate, and I like passion.

  3. I think it would be interesting if you published some of these “menacing and anonymous” letters. We would love to see them. And they all come from the same side? Hmm. Really?
    Greetings to Greg T.
Addendum: Now that I have spoken, I would just like to mention my preference of this site sticking to local stuff.

    • Mr. Loomis – We would love to publish some of our more creative fan mail but suffice to say the frequent misspellings, overuse of punctuation and proclivity for earthy but none-the-less creative wishes for our protracted demise, self-copulation and forced copulation of members of our family preclude it. We’re not the story, after all, and we’ve seen the pearl-clutching that goes on when someone uses f*ck (complete with asterisk) on a sign at a protest rally.

Anonymity is the kick for some, apparently, and while we have barred commentary on our coverage of events, shall we say, not in line with conservative thinking, we have also allowed it from time to time to give those folks the opportunity to warm up their keyboards and let fly. Anyone paying attention can see where it is coming from – even though we have deleted the most vile responses.

As to your question about the source of this effluvia we can say without question that 90 percent of it is coming from the right and has since a certain election day in 2016. We’ll admit we were more than a little surprised when it first started to appear.

Lastly, since you’ve spoken, we would love to “stick to the local stuff” but hasten to remind you and others that we are a media company dedicated to the interests of our readers and if that interest should extend to commentary on national politics then hang on to your hat ’cause we’re going to run it – if we can prove you are who you say you are.

      • But, when I point out the connection between local events and the voting tendency of our fellow citizens, my comments often do not get posted.

  4. Shazam! Words have weight.
“We’re gonna walk down, and I’ll be there with you” to the Capitol.

And the Greenland taco brings us up to date.

  5. Trump’s display at Davos the other day was a shocking display of MAGA themed ultra-nationalism based on insults and lies. Simply put, it was disgraceful.

Trump suggested NATO allies would not help us if we needed them, but let’s remember that Article 5 has been invoked only one time, after 9/11.

On September 12, 2001, NATO declared the 9/11 attacks an attack against all members. Canada and Denmark, along with other nations, sustained significant casualties alongside the U.S.

He also suggested they would be speaking German (and a little Japanese) after WW2, if not for our help. He suggested WE (alone) won the war. I guess he doesn’t know the British were fighting the Nazi’s in 1939, 2 years prior to the U.S. getting into the war.

Perhaps someone should educate him about the Battle of Britain when the RAF bravely defended Britain against the Luftwaffe and planned German invasion. In addition, the British lost more than 40,000 civilians during the Blitz. I’m extremely proud of our role in WW2, incl my father, who completed 30 bombing missions starting with D-Day and continuing during the summer of 1944, but it took many nations to win WW2, not just us.

These insults and lies have done nothing more than galvanize our allies mistrust and dislike for our leader. If they didn’t already have a deep distain and concern for Trump’s vision of America and the world, they most certainly do now.

And I see this morning he’s still at it, insulting/threatening Mark Carney of Canada, along with another ICE shooting/killing in Minnesota. I fear for our country, when will this madness end?

    • Spot-on observations and thanks for posting, John. Yes. Unfortunately, Americans seem to have a somewhat distorted view of our own history. We would suggest some additional reading and perhaps some beefed-up history classes. We frequently hear historical distortions uttered by both citizens and elected officials that make us wince… and ultimately end up hurting us in the eyes of world opinion.

  6. With respect to those that would demand sticking to the local news…

There’s a local restaurant I love. I order the fried chicken every time. I find chicken livers unappealing, yet I’ve never felt compelled to lecture the owner about menu purity. I skip the chicken livers and continue living my life. This approach has proven surprisingly effective.

  7. Just curious how long you’re going to let this political letter be the top headline on News24’680, when you have cars crashing through storefronts in Lafayette and all kinds of other local news happening? Or do you have an hidden agenda?

    • Well now, because it’s you and we’re feeling a little prickly, we may just leave it up for a good long while!

And we’ve covered a wealth of stories today, including that errant car in Lafayette, and we’ve taken a goodly portion of sh*t from the other side of the spectrum for one, and note you didn’t jump in to come to our defense. Most readers know we run stories both here and on our Facebook site, which is equally well engaged but… chattier.

For the record we’ll continue to run our site(s) as we see fit. As proprietors, see, that’s our prerogative. But since you raise the prospect we’ll turn your question back on you – do you have a hidden agenda?

    • Respectfully, Greg, Mr. Taggert’s allegory gives most of us the reassurance that we are all going to be fine if we just skip the chicken liver. Fried chicken is still on the menu.

  8. Editor, lately you sound like you’ve been drinking. Either someone else recently got hired that types these replies or you’ve certainly become a lot more aggressive in your comments. Huge turn off for a local news site IMO. Please tone it down a little, stick to superficial unbiased commentary, neither left or right and be appreciative of your audience checking in.

    • Dear “Don” – thanks for your input. We’re always grateful for the audience who spend their time with us. But we come from a family of military men who taught us to speak our mind. They also taught us that if you sit back and take incoming fire without reply, all you’ll get is more incoming fire. And we don’t drink…

      • You’re a lot cooler-headed in your reply than I would’ve been. Cool that ol’ Ron thinks local journalists have the budget to hire extra cranky hard-boozing comment moderators.

        • “Cool that ol’ Ron thinks local journalists have the budget to hire extra cranky hard-boozing comment moderators…”

Ha! Yes. We’re small but we’re doing okay. Cash in the coffee fund and our checks don’t bounce!

As for our “aggressive” editorial tone, we’ve explained that, we think.

          • 24/680 your direct tone is noted and appreciated. This entire exchange is reflective of the current political landscape wherein some folks do not handle nuance well. There are many examples in life wherein 2 things can be correct concurrently. Every flashpoint issue that is confronted does not have to come down to a binary choice of “either or”. We should gather the attendant facts and information, and then apply our own critical analysis to determine right versus wrong (not right versus left).

    • In the words of Abraham Lincoln defending General Ulysses S. Grant – “If I could find out the brand of whiskey Grant drinks, I would send a barrel to every general in the army.”

Always one of my favorite quotes by one of my favorite people.

  9. Fine example of TDS ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’. Appreciate News24/680 not having doxing potential. Allows responding to crazy people without them going stalker on you.
Pointless to talk to them cause their beliefs is based on lies. Cult like behavior with non-believers.

  10. The president of the United States has portrayed a former president, a black man, as an ape on his social media site. A hairy, black ape.
For those of you just tuning in, this IS your president, and a third of you still seem to be fine with this.
