Letters: ICE-Storm Threatens Minneapolis After Shooting

SHARE

Editor;

Like most Americans — I hope — I was shocked and appalled by the news and video of today’s shooting in Minnesota. I was doubly horrified and then angered by the response of Ms. Noem and the president as they attempted to spin details of the shooting in favor of armed immigration agents.

I realize that this is in the early stages of investigation and ALL  facts should be pursued until confirmed or refuted but the administration’s apparent rush to judgment BEFORE all the evidence at East 34th Street and Portland Avenue could be gathered spoke volumes.

We are in serious times and those times require serious people to see us through. I am doubtful the administration officials I saw in action today are up to the job.

Sincerely,

Cate Wearing/San Ramon

  1. I am waiting for more video and testimony before reaching judgement. Seems that the street protesters won’t wait for that.

    • Explain to me please how billions gone missing from the public purse requires thousands of ICE, who in unmarked cars, masked and armed, who had been there in far smaller numbers scaring the heck out if people, needed to be there in the first place.
Admitting that “law enforcement” sometimes makes split decisions, and in fact he was struck in the torso, taken to a hospital and released. Three shouts were recorded by observers. Get out of your car. Get out. Out of the way. A ten year veteran opens fire and we hear an epithet. Ms. Good at that point was scared and confused.
None of which excuses Ms.Noem’s immediate statement that Renée Good was a “Domestic Terrorist.” Followed by this:
      Cutting off SNAP.
Demanding detailed voter records for the entire state.
Opening a criminal investigation into Ms. Good’s partner.
Trump doesn’t like Governor Walz because he ran for Veep against him and called him names.
      Victim 2 was an “assassin.”
Coach Walz’ net worth is about $800K. He doesn’t own a house, wife’s a teacher, kid with a learning disability that the hard right mocked after the convention.
Gently, anyone believing Minnesota’s a mess has been reading too much Breaking News.
Oh, I grew up there, visited often, and have friends across the political spectrum from ground zero throughout the suburbs checking in.
If these are hardened pedophiles, rapists. and fentanyl dealers I’ll eat my hat.

  2. Well, just saw some more video.

Vehicle is stopped, woman puts car in drive, agent is front of car, car rolls forward, agent jumps out of way, split second.

I was trained to shoot the woman.

    • Were you trained to step in front of the car?
Were you trained to put a round through the windshield – at the driver and possibly at fellow “agents?”
Were you trained to put two more rounds (apparently lethal headshots) into a person at close range as they passed?

And while that “agent” did appear to slip on the icy road, he also appeared in less danger than our aunt Molly while she was mopping her kitchen floor. And, unlike official pronouncements of the incident which came out almost before it had ended, he did not appear injured in any way nor “requiring hospitalization” when he walked up to the car he’d fired into and then walked back to a friendly ICE truck to be driven away.

We don’t expect you to smell what we’re smelling, but we’re catching a whiff of something here…

    • C’mon you’re kidding right? What if that was your mom/daughter/aunt would you agree with deadly force? Be honest. Was the agent in such danger that he had shoot three times vs. stepping to the side?

You ever been out shopping during the holidays in a busy parking lot where you had to avoid a slow moving car and thought instead of moving I need to put bullet holes in that person or else I’m gonna die from being bumped on the leg?

GTFOH with your B.S. We all saw what happened and no way was he in immediate danger for his life.

    • Hah! I seriously doubt you were trained to escalate a situation to the point where you could shoot someone and get away with it. That is your choice and one you should have to face a jury for.

  3. Both edges of the political divide are in play with this unfortunate episode. If we peel the proverbial onion back, each side can make a colorable argument. On one hand, if a federal LEO is carrying out an assignment, he/she should not be subject to interference by interlopers. By the same token, any one protesting federal LEO activities has the right to express disdain, but should not have to pay the ultimate price in doing so. (Whether assignment is lawful and whether sanctuary/safe city laws impede federal officers are separate discussions altogether). I agree that we need to hold off on judgment until all of the evidence/facts are available. However, I am concerned that due to the reflexive partisan responses, it will be difficult to provide analysis through an objective lens, let alone reaching agreement on the what are salient facts.

  4. Youtube is full of videos showing Police defending themselves from Drivers using their vehicle as a weapon. Most times is drivers trying to escape. From shoplifters to wanted felons. When asked to exit the vehicle, drivers forcibly attempt to drive away. When Police are caught in the path of the car, they always pull their gun and shot the Driver.
Moral of the story is don’t endanger police with your car. Its a sure way of getting shot.

The National Protest is reminiscent of Pink Floyd riots. Winter version XD

    • Know what else is on YouTube? Videos of this incident. Showing how little it has in common with your cut and dried hypothetical.
