On Thursday, December 18, 2025, at about 10:36 PM, Lafayette police attempted to make an enforcement stop for traffic violations.

The vehicle did not yield and led officers on a pursuit that went from downtown Lafayette to eastbound Highway 24 and then southbound 680.

The suspect vehicle exited on Livorna Road, traveled eastbound, entering the Stonegate neighborhood. The suspect fled on foot as his vehicle became disabled after it crashed into a fence. A Danville police officer using a drone was able to locate the suspect hiding in a yard. The suspect was arrested. (Information that the suspect sustained a bite wound from a police dog was not immediately confirmed).

He is identified as 38-year-old Benjamin Ashburn of San Francisco. Ashburn was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on charges that include felony evading, resisting arrest, and probation violation. He is being held without bail. No other suspects are outstanding.
