From the Office of the District Attorney:

Martinez, California – The Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office has charged a Richmond man with multiple felonies including attempted murder after he assaulted his spouse aboard an AC Transit bus following her work shift near the Richmond BART station, Mandingo Alfroconus Hayes, 54, is being held at the Martinez Detention Facility on $1,179,000 bond. The charges include:

• Felony attempted murder with an enhancement for personal use of a knife
• Two felony counts of injuring a spouse
• Resisting arrest
• Two misdemeanor charges: disobeying a domestic relations court order and possession of tear gas

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on an AC Transit bus on August 25th at approximately 7:35 a.m. Hayes attacked the bus operator, who is his spouse, inflicting knife wounds and pepper spray exposure. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Due to the interpersonal relationship between the victim and defendant, the case is being prosecuted by the District Attorney’s Domestic Violence Unit.

“Our office is committed to holding offenders accountable while ensuring survivors of domestic abuse receive the protection and support they need,” said District Attorney Diana Becton. “This prosecution reflects our broader mission to break the cycle of abuse and promote community safety.”

  1. A boy named Sue would have a better chance on a job application than Mandingo Alfroconus in ‘Merica. At 54, he is a post-Black-Panthers-era baby, or no? Who did this to him? Of course, the violence is on him. I don’t diminish that for a minute. I am just noting along with others the other worldliness of the thought process in naming him.
