Three masked and hooded raiders broke into the Target store at 2610 Bishop Drive early Sunday morning, adding a new dimension to the local robbery game by affixing some sort of explosive device to the store’s cash machine and attempting to blow it up in place.
Details remain sketchy as San Ramon police and FBI personnel process the store in search of evidence. At this hour (11am. Sunday) all that is known is that the burglary was discovered at around 2:19am and that the blast caused considerable damage during the attempt to breach the cash machine. It was not disclosed how much, if any, money was taken.
Preliminary information has it that the men, wearing hoodies and masks, left the store shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday. It was not immediately known what type of components were used to breach/attempt to breach the machine, though police said the eastern public entrance to the store sustained significant damage.
This morning’s crime appears to be an escalation of the lengths thieves have been known to go in order to secure a cash machine. Past efforts have included looping rope or chain around the machines and towing them out of the store, often with a stolen car.
They’re changing their tactics.

Usual intelligent enquiry from site pal Jeff. Short answer is we’re not precisely sure though alarms were sounding at the store, apparently – followed by that blast which some folks heard in the surrounding neighborhood. Highly unusual breach as you point out.
Until there are proper consequences, this behavior will only continue and get worse.
