This is Bay Area photojournalist Craig Cannon, after a CalFire VLAT used his car as an aiming point.
You may not know his face but as friend and colleague Art Ray wrote after news of Craig’s passing reached him: “I guarantee you if you saw a breaking news story from Central Contra Costa County on Bay Area TV, between Dublin, and Vallejo… Craig shot it.”
His work appeared often here on News24/680.
Craig retired just last month after 40 years capturing news stories, moving to Nevada to build a brand new house for him and wife Susan, get some fishing in and adjust to a life without deadlines and gunfire. He passed overnight.
Between covering news stories, Craig was a driving force and advocate for our county’s agricultural community.
We were lucky enough to have spoken with him just last night and will carry his last words and last pictures with us until our name is called.
Very sorry to read this sad news…at times he seemed to be everywhere. My best to his friends and family.
So sorry to hear of his passing. Condolences for his family and the family of News 24/680.
May he rest in peace
All my best to 24/680 and the Cannon family as you try to heal from this tragic passing. I so much appreciated his work and in sure he was a wonderful man.
Thank you very kindly, sir…
