Local PDs Join Forces For E-Bike Safety Enforcement Day, May 21
Coordinated effort aims to educate riders and reduce e-bike-related incidents
On Wednesday, May 21, police departments across the Tri-Valley region will be conducting a coordinated enforcement and education effort focused on electric bike safety. The initiative is designed to reinforce the importance of safe riding, raise awareness about e-bike regulations, and prevent accidents on local streets, police said.
The growing popularity of electric bikes has sparked reports of irresponsible and, at times, aggressive behavior by some riders. The joint enforcement effort will combine enforcement with rider education to help ensure that e-bike users are following the law and riding safely.
Officers will be reminding riders to:
- Follow the Rules – Know and obey e-bike laws to keep yourself and others safe.
- Ride Responsibly – Speeding, unsafe maneuvers, and failure to observe traffic laws endanger everyone on the road.
- Be Aware – Stay alert and ride defensively around pedestrians, vehicles, and other cyclists.
The safety of all road users is a top priority. This regional operation reflects the shared commitment of Tri-Valley communities to promote responsible e-bike use and create safer streets for everyone.

Getting to be a real problem.
I use the Iron Horse Trail a lot as a pedestrian, and I can’t tell you how many times a speeding adolescent on an e-bike has nearly run me off the trail. Never a beep or a call-out, either. Those things are mini motorcycles. Folks are being sent to emergency rooms.
