Bar Patrons Robbed At Gunpoint In Walnut Creek Saturday

Customers enjoying a smoke outside Hops N’ Scotch Bar, Corner of Treat and Oak in Walnut Creek, had the moment interrupted at about 10:24pm Saturday when a trio of armed men confronted and robbed them of their watches and wallets.

Three masked black males armed with 9mm pistols are being sought for the robbery, the first of its kind in recent memory.

A manager said the patrons stepped out of the bar to have a cigarette and were robbed while smoking outside.

The business gives its address as 7001 Sunne Lane in Walnut Creek, though county sheriffs and Pleasant Hill police were first to respond after help was summoned. Police were reportedly looking for a white Hyundai Elantra with the three men aboard.

No injuries were reported during the holdup.

That’s the problem with california gun laws,,only the riff-raff walk around with 30+ round magazines. While the law a biding citizen is left defenseless…That’s why I moved to oklahoma.

Yes, no one in Oklahoma is ever robbed at gunpoint. That’s sarcasm, by the way. I state that because your choice to live in OK demands it.

I was born in OK, and that’s why I choose to live in CA.

I am surprised this article said black men. Most articles are so PC now that they won’t even say male or female because it might offend someone. ??

“Just the facts,” as associated with the TV show Dragnet, but was never actually said by Sgt. Joe Friday, which is a fact.

I’d bet that proximity to the freeway had something todo with it.

Its being reported that they were actually Kick Boxing patrons from next door business, not bar patrons. Just a detail, but maybe important to the bar owner.

    • SiD on Mar 25, 2025 at 5:18 am

Wow. I would have tied the smoking business to the bar, and not the kickboxing spot.

    • Gregg on Mar 25, 2025 at 8:31 am

Kickboxers stepping outside for a smoke? Possible I guess but unlikely.

    • Kris on Mar 25, 2025 at 10:52 am

The kick box studio closes at 7:30 and the incident happened around 10:30. So they had to be bar patrons

    • David on Mar 25, 2025 at 4:42 pm

Some people say that’s a really unimportant point “being reported”.

    • Greg T on Mar 26, 2025 at 5:15 pm

Wow, you think that if they were kickboxers they would have ‘kicked some boxes’ and not been robbed. ?

“A manager said the patrons stepped out of the bar to have a cigarette and were robbed while smoking outside.”
Wow indeed. There are no credible reports that the victims were kickboxers, but hey, don’t let that interfere with your scintillating, fact-free “analysis”.

    Thanks for reporting this.

For context, Hops & Scotch is in the Contra Costa Centre Transit Village, which—despite the Walnut Creek address—is in unincorporated Contra Costa County and falls under the Sheriff’s jurisdiction. The Sheriff’s Office has an annex about 700 feet away around the corner at 152 Harvey Drive.

The article’s wording toward the end might lead readers to believe that Walnut Creek PD should have been the first to respond. But with added context, it makes sense that Sheriff’s deputies arrived first.

    Thanks again for reporting this.

And yet, it’s extremely difficult to get a concealed carry license in California. We’re sitting ducks.

    • Steve on Mar 24, 2025 at 2:29 pm

There’s nothing difficult about getting a concealed carry permit in CA except for the time it takes and the money it costs if you are an upstanding citizen and mentally acute.
