A mobile crew of ram raiders breached the glass frontage of the Lafayette CVS pharmacy store early Thursday morning, reportedly attempting to manhandle an ATM out of the business before scattering onto westbound Highway 24.
Officers lost sight of at least two cars used in the theft after a brief, high-speed run through the Caldecott and into Oakland-Berkeley. Five masked men were believed to have taken part in the attempted theft.
The breach raid was reported at approximately 3:12 a.m., with Lafayette police briefly pursuing a silver Lexus and another vehicle used in the crime.
A maroon Lexus found abandoned at the scene was believed to have been stolen earlier and used to ram the store’s frontage.
Didn’t hear a thing!
Do we continue to fortify our stores with decorative concrete barriers, security guards and lock our shelves behind plexiglass? Or do we allow law enforcement to proactively pursue and arrest criminals? And have our DA’s prosecute the same criminals?
New recall Becton effort underway.

Yet we had actual elections and she was re-elected. Another waste of taxpayer money. Maybe DOGE should look into it (and all the taxpayer funded golfing).
Exactly what happened here that matches any of that? The police were actually pursuing the people, who evidently escaped. So no one “allowed” anyone to do anything. Maybe not every crime is an opportunity to put out an agenda. I always wonder why some people act like there was some moment in history when crime didn’t happen and we just have to get ourselves back to it.
Oh crimes happened all the time in the past, but there was punishment if caught, not so in the current California environment.

I wish that the Caldecott Tunnel had Gates on it that could be closed!
Once criminals get to the Oakland side they’re scot-free in the Oakland criminal safety zone. Oakland City Council still will not let police chase criminals.
Untrue per our experiences in our neighboring county.
Only for violent crimes.
