A 17-year-old San Ramon boy was struck and killed after apparently walking into traffic on southbound Interstate 680 south of Crow Canyon Road early Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatality was reported just after 4:30 a.m. Wednesday after CHP officers were dispatched to the area in answer to reports of a pedestrian on the freeway.
Officers located a person down in the No. 3 lane and a Subaru Crosstrek stopped nearby. The teenager, whose name has not been released yet, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined that the Crosstrek was traveling at approximately 60 to 65 mph when someone accessed the freeway from the right shoulder and appeared in the SUV’s lane.
The driver — an unidentified 63-year-old Richmond woman — told police she braked but could not stop in time.
Breaks our hearts to hear this.
RIP
Oh my, this brings on tears. My daughter is 17 years old in the same city. Too young to die. My condolences to the family and friends.
