A man wanted for burglary and a possible arson was arrested in a Danville neighborhood Sunday after a rambling pursuit through the forested eastern end of the town.

Police were looking for Clayton Mackay, 26, after incidents in Walnut Creek and Danville and alerted the public of their desire to locate him early Sunday morning. Sightings began to pour in shortly after that bulletin was released and police flooded into the neighborhoods where Mackay had reportedly been seen. Helicopters from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s office and East Bay Regional Parks District police were also requested, orbiting the search area.

Officers and deputies descended on the 100 block of Camino Encanto at about 1:43p.m. and took Mackay into custody after a brief struggle. No injuries were reported though Mackay was examined and treated for injuries sustained while running barefoot through heavy brush.

Mackay is currently in custody on a variety of charges with bail set at $360,000.

He did remarkably well given conditions and his lack of footwear.

He wasn’t just barefooted- he basically had nothing on but a little pair of bikini shorts!
Flip flops would have been an upgrade.

KTVU is mentioning a knife during the burglary/robbery. He chose wisely, I’m his huckleberry.

We were aware he might have been carrying a blade of some type and also that he got rid of it at some point during the chase.

I walked out into my backyard when I heard the copter overhead. I encountered this frantic wild eyed guy staring at me over my fence screaming at me. lLl I could make out over the copter noise was “I just want to be left alone!” I had my phone in hand and while calling 911 I pointed down Marion Lane and yeld at him RUN!!! Cops in pursuit soon after. The whole episode was seriously unsettling. I thot about how really worng it could have gone, had he had a gun! And then I mostly felt so sad thinking about what the f happened to this guy that he found himself in this situation? Another casualty of our broken system. Another sad, lost soul fallen thru the cracks. ;(

I know guy personally. His family wanted him to get help but you can’t do much for someone who’s mentally unwell.
