Orinda Car Burglary Sparks Pursuit North On I680 Thursday

An apparent car burglary on Moraga Way in Orinda triggered a high-speed pursuit north on I680 into Pleasant Hill-Concord Thursday – resulting in a multi-car collision before law enforcement lost sight of the suspect vehicle at Monument Boulevard.

Things kicked off (for us) shortly after 4 p.m. when we received calls of activity outside a home in the 400 block of Moraga Way, Lamorinda police descending on the area to investigate. Shortly afterward, police initiated pursuit of a silver Impala near the 24/680 split, the vehicle’s driver employing evasive maneuvers to shake off pursuers.

A crash involving at least two vehicles and possibly a police unit was spotted just north of Treat Boulevard as the Impala reportedly disappeared into heavy traffic.

  1. When caught, these criminals that recklessly flee should be charged with attempted murder for causing accidents.
I’m fully in favor of these chases by the police. Not doing them give the criminals free reign, like they have in Oakland. But the criminals should be get mandatory jail time for just fleeing like that. I don’t want to hear that they’re afraid of police or didn’t know they did wrong. Crime is getting worse and worse and we’ve got to stop catering to the criminal!

    • “I don’t want to hear that they’re afraid of police or didn’t know they did wrong. Crime is getting worse and worse and we’ve got to stop catering to the criminal!”

Your anger and your sense of grievance and fear and victimization comes through LOUDLY. CLEARLY, your animated state of mind does not help solve our crime problems. Get a drum set. And, change the channel! Finally, vote for someone who believes in the rule of law, and that is not Lord Voldemort.

      • I think his point is just that harsher penalties for evasion, which does wouldn’t you know it does currently have a charge called drumrolll “felony evasion”.

  2. “attempted murder for causing accidents”

Really, is that your best recommendation? You don’t think a defense attorney will know the definition of an “accident”??

Accident: “an unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally”

Hmmm. “Unintentionally”. That seems like an important piece of testimony Mr. Greg T.

Thank God you are not a prosecutor where you have to prove intent and where you are deciding how to spend your precious resources to get convictions, not acquittals, and not hung juries.
