A 75-year-old Berkeley man was at the controls of a single engine Vans RV-6 experimental aircraft which crashed into a busy Concord intersection near Buchanan Field Tuesday.

The pilot, Jacek “Jack” Romanski, died when his two seat aircraft appeared to stall following a series of practice “touch ‘n go” landings at the airfield, falling to earth at Concord Avenue and Diamond Boulevard at about 10:30 a.m.

Romanski was a well-known local pilot.

The crash is currently under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
