A man apparently not fond of fire and police services used a rock to vandalize Concord police headquarters on Galindo Street Thursday, allegedly hurled a rock at a firetruck and then hurled himself into Ellis Lake after unsuccessfully attempting to scale a tree while running from officers.

Police reportedly became aware of a man in a black hat, black clothes, black backpack riding a black bike outside police offices shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday. The man allegedly used a rock to batter the department’s front doors and threw a rock at a firetruck in the area.

Officers spotted the man running – rock in hand – into Ellis Park and observed him trying to climb a tree before giving up and running into the lake while officers arrived and ordered him out. The man eventually surrendered to police after a brief standoff.

It was not immediately known what drove him to behave as he did.

  1. “man running – rock in hand” tries to “climb a tree” and runs “into a lake”
Alert Anthropology! I think we may have found our Missing Link.

  2. Tasing him would only validate his beliefs. Sometimes people are just messed up, it doesn’t have to constantly be taken as an action worthy of returned violence.
