A county health hazardous materials team was readied for a response to the Martinez Renewable Fuels (Marathon Refinery) facility after a furnace flared and burned a worker trying to shut it down.
CCH briefly issued a public health advisory for Martinez, Pacheco, Concord and Clyde after the 12:30am incident, but that advisory was quickly lifted when the nature of the incident became clear.
The unidentified worker was airlifted to UC Davis Burn Center for treatment.
The refinery town of Avon, near Martinez, was the scene of a tragic fire which injured and killed several workers years ago when the refinery was operated by Tosco.
I live in Martinez near the refinery. Why didn’t I receive the public health alert? I signed up for them and have received them in the past.
A question best put to the originators of the alert, Heidi, though this one was rescinded pretty quickly, we think.
Our Flash alerts, however, went out!

A friend and coworker of mine was in an explosion at work at 1am (11-19-23). He was air lifted to a burn unit. They say 65% or more of his body was burned. This will be a long road for him and his family.
Please donate to help. If you can’t donate please share. And please, please pray for his recovery and for strength for what everyone will have to endure.
Thank you,
Erica
