Police were summoned to the 1500 block of Newell Avenue in Walnut Creek a little after 1 p.m. Friday after a person reported being robbed at gunpoint at that location.

Details remain vague as the victim was reportedly undergoing treatment for a head laceration suffered during the robbery. It is unclear if the reported thief, an armed black male in a ski mask, was attempting to carjack the victim’s vehicle and was unsuccessful – taking the victim’s watch before running to a waiting car.

The gunman and an accomplice are reportedly in a black Dodge Charger with tinted windows and a possible paper or altered license plate.

Walnut Creek police posted the following to their Facebook page Saturday afternoon:

At approximately 1:11 PM, Walnut Creek Police Dispatch received a 911 call of a robbery that occurred in the parking lot of the Newell Promenade Shopping Center, 1500 block of Newell Avenue.

The victim was in the process of getting into an Uber rideshare when two unknown race male suspects wearing masks approached and confronted the victim. One of the suspects was armed with a dark colored handgun.

After a brief struggle, the suspects stole the victim’s watch and fled. During the robbery the victim sustained a facial injury.

  1. There must be a lot of black Dodge Chargers on the streets. No one seems to see them before someone gets robbed.

  2. What’s amazing is that the Dodge Charger seems to attract the harder type individuals as owners. Add tinted windows and aftermarket wheels and you have a suspicious looking vehicle, in my opinion. Sorry folks, but it’s true. It’s true, certain types of cars seem to attract certain types of people.

  3. Why is Walnut Creek being targeted? Is it the close proximity to freeways and a quick getaway? Soft on crime? I’ve lived here for over 50 years and have never seen anything like the way it’s been the past 2 1/2 years. Thugs are all from out of town reeking havoc on our beautiful City. Word has gotten out that Walnut Creek is an easy mark and drastic measures need to be taken.

  4. Apparently Dodge Chargers and Challengers are super easy to steal and too much fun to drive like ya stole it.

  5. The general public is poorer and poorer..inflation..our money is worth less..people need to feed their family..they are becoming more desperate..when people become more desperate for whatever reason they are going to behave desperately. Think about it.

  6. Jasmine, not all poor people resort to hyper violent crimes just because they’re poor. I’m trying to think of who do……..

Maybe it’s time to weld that revolving door shut!

  7. If only there were actual jobs to be had to keep ones mind preoccupied from planning to violently rob random people. Alas I must concede that things are beyond challenging at the moment with a staggering 4.7% unemployment rate…….

  8. It has nothing to do with people being “desperate “ and everything to do simply not enforcing the laws we have. These thugs should be arrested and prosecuted by DAs who represent the victims. These guys are not poor they simply know nothing will happen to them.

  9. The cure for recidivism is long prison sentences, federal if at all possible. Anything else is just wishful thinking while needlessly endangering the public!

  10. This is why I have a C.C.W. and as an American I firmly believe in upholding my God given constitutional 2nd Amendment right to bare arms to protect my family and myself from these P.O.S.
I also believe that if more law abiding citizens upheld their right to bare arms, these P.O.S.might think twice if we send a few of them to meet their maker, they might just settle down and not come out to our city. Yes, you read my comment correctly.
