San Ramon PD Plays Through, Arrests Alleged Golf Sticks Scammer

SHARE

Under “creative law enforcement techniques” this week we have an entry from San Ramon police, who pressed golf carts borrowed from the pro shop of a local golf course to pursue – and catch up with – an alleged course scammer one recent sunny afternoon.

The alleged hustler, identified as Brent Palmer, 53, of Santa Cruz, was on the 8th hole of an unidentified local links when police rolled up and took him into custody. It was not immediately known if he was in mid-swing.

At least one complainant told police he’d given $2,000 to Palmer with the understanding he’d be given a new set of clubs from a company Palmer told him he represented.

The money disappeared, Palmer disappeared, and the clubs never turned up so police were called in.

Palmer was arrested for fraud related charges and outstanding related warrants for similar crimes in other counties and had his round cut short.
