Barricaded Subject Prompts Shelter In Place Order In Lafayette Monday

UPDATE: 3:19pm – Subject detained. No injuries.

Residents of several homes off Reliez Station Road in Lafayette were advised to shelter in place Monday as police attempted to negotiate with a subject threatening self-harm inside a residence on Roxanne Lane.

Persons living in the initial blocks of Beechwood Drive and Roxanne Lane were advised not to venture outdoors as the occupant held heavily armed police at bay, threatening to set fire to the residence.

Police, hampered by the area’s hilly terrain, managed to make contact with the person inside the home and were attempting to negotiate his surrender.

That standoff, still underway at 12:37 pm, started just before 11 a.m.

  1. It was my driveway blocked off and NO ONE told me “shelter in place”. I walked out and comforted mom. Went back into my house to continue working. I found out here later!!!!
