The California Highway Patrol on Monday confirmed details of a fatal shooting on westbound Highway 24 east of St. Stephens Drive in Orinda first reported here the evening of July 28.
The victim, identified as Brandon Valencia, 22, of Oakley, died of his wounds the Sunday morning following the shooting.
As we first reported that evening, a man was shot and seriously wounded on the freeway, uninjured associates driving the mortally wounded man to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek where he was later pronounced deceased.
Investigators determined that the suspect vehicle pulled in behind and then alongside the victim vehicle on westbound Highway 24 east of St. Stephens when the occupants heard several shots being fired. At some point later the driver and front passenger quickly realized the rear passenger had been hit and was wounded, steering for the hospital.
Was this gang related? What do you mean by associates, was he carpooling for work? Yikes.
