Bit of action on Highway 4 in Martinez started about 1:30AM this morning as Sheriff and CHP chased a Nissan from East Contra Costa through Central, West, and back to East County.
The car was spike-stripped and lost its front tires, you can hear the driver continuing on metal rims at 80 MPH. Sparks from the scraping metal on the Altima started several small grass fires on H4 near San Marcos Blvd Exit (aerial video on our Facebook Page).
Soon after the car crashed at San Marcos, a short standoff took place with CHP and Sheriffs. The car was destroyed, the driver suffered a minor injury and the dog was confused but cared for.
The driver was taken into custody. A loaded assault pistol without serial numbers was located in the car.
The suspect is identified as 33-year-old Artis Crenshaw of Antioch. He was booked on charges that include felony evading, possession of a stolen vehicle, and weapons violations.
The fires were knocked down shortly after by police with fire extinguishers. The freeway off was closed for under an hour. Dog also rescued. Crash time was 2:10AM
That poor dog. Glad none of the good guys were injured. Nice work by the cameraman.
Your dog will love you no matter how big a dirtbag you are.
True enough, though our doggo still hasn’t forgiven us for that trip to the vet last year.
