Rescuers turned out to extinguish a grass fire and extricate a driver trapped in a Volkswagen lodged in a tree off Taylor Boulevard in Lafayette Thursday.
The crash was reported shortly after noon, with passersby responding to the scene and attempting to aid the unresponsive driver. Passersby also extinguished a small grass fire which kicked up when the car hit the tree.
The area of Taylor Boulevard near Greenhills Drive was locked down as firefighters worked to access the driver, traffic stacking up as emergency vehicles rolled onto the scene.
Northbound Taylor Boulevard was closed at the split diverting to Pleasant Hill Road until the driver could be removed and transferred to a local hospital.
The driver’s condition was not known.
Hope the driver is safe but people just fly through that area.
Second the comment about high speeds. This area receives minimal traffic enforcement (sometimes there are cops on the Lafayette side), and it has very few signals. Much of this road between Laf and PHill is unincorporated and people just fly.
