A carload of masked youths appear to be making the rounds of local convenience stores Friday, jumping counters at stores in Pleasant Hill and Lafayette and making off with cash and cigarettes.
The group, believed to be about six black males wearing COVID-style masks and hoodies, first swarmed an employee at the 7Eleven store on Pleasant Hill Road in Pleasant Hill at 4:57 p.m., then struck at the Lafayette 7Eleven at 3347 Mount Diablo Boulevard at 5:22 p.m.
In that incident, a man believed to be a former law enforcement officer drew a weapon on the group – forcing them to drop some of their pilfered goods – before they ran to a silver Cadillac and drove away.
No one appears to have been hurt during the robberies. Police and store security have issued advisories to neighboring jurisdictions and stores to be aware of the group should they come to town.
Smoking is bad for your health.
So is stealing if you get shot.
Just driving around. Looking for something to steal. I’d like to hear from that LEO/security guy who got the drop on them???

Okay, we’ll ask… was that off-duty/retired you?
No, but it’s exactly what I would have done.
