Christmas is ramping up in the 24/680 and as fresh trees go up in our living rooms and shoppers scurry to and fro another segment of society emerges – apparently to rip off the to and fro people.

Pleasant Hill PD managed to corral two of three women allegedly trying to make off with several cartloads of merchandise from their Target store Wednesday, an officer outrunning one suspect and backup officers locating another reportedly hiding out in the bathroom of a neighboring In N Out Burger.

The pair were identified as:

Dayshuna Renee Lowery, 22, of Sacramento
Patience Renee Washington, 18, of Antioch

Both subjects were booked into county jail on grand theft charges. Officers snapped a photo of the carts the women were allegedly trying to push out of the store when officers were summoned and a tally of the pilfered goods came in at about $4,000 worth of goods.

Also Wednesday, a crime of the times took on a new twist when a Lafayette resident stopped at a traffic light at Withers Avenue and Taylor Boulevard was stunned when the masked occupant of a neighboring car leapt out, smashed her window – and made off with her purse.

Police have yet to comment on the incident, reported at around 4:30 p.m.

The victim in this mobile smash-and-grab was not believed to have been injured.

Also, we’ve gotten several reports of residential burglaries throughout the 24/680, the thieves reportedly entering the homes by smashing a rear window or door. As always during the Holiday Season, electronics and jewelry appear to be targeted goods of choice for local thieves.

  1. If this is their modus operandi then both Dayshuna as well as Patience don’t sound very smart. But that aside I think Target and other stores should start posting photos at the entrances of stores of shoplifters that have been apprehended. Maybe post them online also. Public shame so their friends and family as well as the public can see.

  2. Why the hell don’t these stores simply have security people at the exits checking receipts to merchandise?!?!

    • Why? Because the stores are afraid of being sued for asking the wrong person the wrong question or having to physically stop someone with force.

      • I don’t think being sued has anything to do with it. If that was the case, they wouldn’t do it at Walmart, Sam’s, etc.

It’s not cost effective. The stores don’t want to pay someone to stand there all day and check receipts, nor should they have to. Walmart can afford it because the Walton family is the richest family in America.
